Description
This is not a quest in the traditional sense, and it will not be listed as one in your journal. It consists of a few final steps – a postscript and a winding down of the main quest of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
You are still in Sovngarde, having just spectacularly destroyed Alduin alongside the three Nord heroes.
Speak with Tsun to return to Skyrim
Tsun is the first to congratulate you on this mighty deed. Finally, Alduin's doom has been sealed, and Sovngarde is free from his cruel snare. He states that they will sing of this battle in Shor's hall forever. However, your destiny is not to be fulfilled here, and you will only be welcomed anew at the end of your life. You are to let Tsun know when you are ready to return to the living.
The three Nord heroes express their gratitude for your assistance in destroying Alduin.
Meanwhile, the Nord heroes praise you with the highest acclaim: Glory and honor to the Dragonborn!
Gormlaith speaks of a glorious victory and suggests that the gods themselves must envy us this well-deserved honor. For Felldir, the ancient debt is now paid, and the long night has ended. For Hakon, it will be an honor when you return to Shor's hall at the end of your journey.
When you are ready, Tsun rewards you with a gift from his master Shor: Call of Valor - a shout that summons a hero of Sovngarde in your hour of need:
HUN: Gormlaith - bow, sword, shield, and a few shouts
HUN KAAR: Felldir - greatsword and several powerful shouts
HUN KAAR ZOOL: Hakon - battleaxe and close-combat shouts
Then, you are teleported back to Nirn, atop the Throat of the World.
Several dragons are perched there, some mourning Alduin in a unified chorus:
"- Alduin mahlaan!"★ "- Sahrot thur qahnaraan!"★ "- Dovahkiin los ok dovahkriid."★
Then, some of them begin to flutter their wings and fly away one by one. If Paarthurnax is still alive, you learn from him that while Alduin's fall was inevitable, he cannot celebrate it. Alduin was once his brother, and the world will never be the same again. He states that you have just won a mighty victory that will echo through all the ages of this world, but it was not the last time you left your mark on the currents of time. As he flies away, he adds that he feels young now and hopes that without Alduin's lordship, his brothers will now submit to the righteousness of his Thu'um.
Finally, Odahviing flies in and confesses that he gladly recognizes the power of the Dragonborn's Thu'um. If Paarthurnax is still alive, Odahviing does not seem inclined to follow him and wishes him luck with his "Way of the Voice" mission. He describes it as a tyranny and doubts that many will follow Paarthurnax. Upon parting, he states that you should call him whenever you need him, and he will come if he can.
You can find the Greybeards meditating at the round table in High Hrothgar, where you are greeted by Master Arngeir. After you tell him about Sovngarde, he is pleased that it is over. He remarks that you have proven yourself mighty in word and deed and advises you to let the Way of the Voice guide you to discover the path of wisdom. The other monks then stand up and bow respectfully.
If you mention your unease regarding the unabsorbed soul of Alduin, Master Arngeir counters that dragons are not actually mortal beings, and Alduin was unique even among dragons. He suggests that perhaps Alduin will return at the end of time to fulfill his destiny as the World-Eater. However, that remains up to the gods.
You can also carry the glorious news to Sky Haven Temple. There, the Blades have already learned that you left Whiterun on the back of a dragon. Delphine is very happy to hear that Alduin has been destroyed and recalls the day you first visited her at the inn.
Esbern adds that it came to pass exactly as foretold in the prophecy and thanks you profoundly - stating that you have done everyone a great service.
Tips & Notes
If you contributed barely anything to the final battle against Alduin, all the praise and acclaim can feel misplaced and embarrassing.
For the transport back to Nirn, Tsun utilizes the dragon shout NAHL DAAL VUS (Living Return Nirn).
If you have not killed Paarthurnax up to this point, this open quest is cleared from your journal upon returning to Nirn. Nevertheless, the Blades still demand his death. Only with the deaths of both Alduin and Paarthurnax will this dark chapter of history be closed for them.
Odahviing already mentioned that not all dragons will follow Paarthurnax's Way of the Voice, so you must still expect dragon attacks even after completing the main quest. This should not be viewed as a disadvantage - it ensures you can still obtain souls to unlock learned dragon shouts and provides a constant supply of materials for dragon armor.
