Descent2
For many dedicated Descent fans, the very first game of the franchise offered the best atmosphere. Personally, I found Descent II to be the most enjoyable and fun experience. As native DOS games, both titles were incredibly fast-paced, straightforward, and robust. While Descent³ was modern and technically advanced, for many players it no longer captured the true essence of a genuine Descent game.

I have captured several of my Descent II adventures in video format, which can be viewed on my YouTube channel page.
My main goal was not to showcase standard combat situations, but rather to demonstrate puzzle solutions, objective walkthroughs, hidden doors, and efficient gameplay tactics. The specific goals for each mission are detailed in the respective video descriptions.

BossArena
Back in 1997, I launched a "Little Descent Page" online, which featured a collection of screenshots, images, and my personal experiences with both Descent and Descent II.

In a small, custom-made level called the "Boss Arena", all the bosses from Descent, Descent II, and the Vertigo expansion faced off against each other in sequence. It was a completely enclosed arena room where the competitors could engage without any outside interference, allowing them to focus entirely on their sole opponent.

These one-on-one duels were designed to showcase their combat strength, tactical behavior, and weapon efficiency. They entered the ring with all their standard attributes originally assigned by Parallax Software. The only characteristic they were stripped of was their actual "Boss" status — meaning that their individual defeat would not trigger the end of the level. Each participant had to fight a total of 40 battles against every other rival: 20 matches on the "Trainee" difficulty setting and 20 matches on "Insane".

The final results and statistics of these intense duels can still be viewed in the data tables on the original archive page of the Boss Arena.

BigBossArena
"Big Boss Arena" is a small custom level that I developed back in 1998. It consists primarily of one massive hall with fully transparent walls, where all the Descent bosses along with several standard robots compete against each other at the exact same time.

Naturally, this chaotic setup only works by activating the cheat code SILKWING, but once enabled, you can watch the massive spectacle unfold just like looking into a giant aquarium. For the exceptionally brave players, there is also the option to jump right into the action and experience a few intense seconds of combat (though it is highly recommended to visit the adjacent weapons locker first).

Please note that "Big Boss Arena" is only compatible and playable with DESCENT II v.1.2 Vertigo.
To install it, simply extract the downloaded archive BBArena.zip into your missions directory. To initialize the level correctly, briefly start a standard Vertigo level first, after which BBArena will be fully operational and ready to play.

Ross128
"Ross128" is a single-player mission that I designed and developed back in 1998. It features several complex puzzles and trials that present a true challenge, even when playing on the easiest difficulty setting. Although players can discover the powerful Quad Laser Level 2 and an abundance of missiles, a cautious approach is highly recommended. Success here will not be achieved through brute force, but rather through the right tactical strategy.

The rooms and shafts are intentionally dimly lit — I put a great deal of effort into recreating the eerie, authentic atmosphere of a subterranean mine. Furthermore, another unique gameplay characteristic does not make a successful completion any easier, making this specific mission best suited for experienced pilots.

Please note that "Ross128" is only compatible and functional with DESCENT II v.1.2.

To install the mission, simply extract the downloaded archive Ross128.zip into your missions directory and select Ross128 from the in-game mission menu.
